These days, ‘thrifting’ - that is, shopping in second-hand shops - is a popular pastime. After all, second-hand goods are good for a more sustainable future. This is no less so in Zeeland. 1. (S)old Antiques
Schoondijke, Zeeland-Flanders
(S)old Antiques in Schoondijke stocks an amazing collection of industrial, vintage and second-hand furniture and household accessories. All items have been specially selected and lovingly restored to give them a second life. The second-hand shop is located in a large warehouse, once used as a potato store, but fantastic bargains can also be found in their webshop.
2. Depot J&J
Terneuzen, Zeeland-Flanders
Depot J&J has become a household name in Zeeland and beyond. The store attracts customers from far and wide, and welcomes not only locals, but antique-buffs from neighbouring regions, such as Flanders, Wallonia and the rest of the Netherlands. In addition to its large collection of industrial, vintage and antique furniture, the owners of Depot J&J also sell items of furniture they make themselves.
3. Benko
Sint Jansteen, Zeeland-Flanders
A former flax mill in Sint Jansteen now houses Benko, an outlet selling antique, second-hand and other out-of-the ordinary items. Benko sources its collection throughout France, where they look for unique items which add warmth and comfort to any interior. With a bit of luck, you might chance upon a set of antique doors from a Parisian hotel, or industrial light fittings which add flair to you dining space.
4. De Kameleon
's-Heer Arendskerke and Goes, Zuid-Beveland
The warehouse of De Kameleon in ’s-Heer Arendskerke - visits by appointment only - holds a constantly changing collection of furniture and accessories from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. If you’d rather not make an appointment, you can visit their shop in Goes. The store also houses a sub-division of EllaOsix, which has an exclusive selection of hand-made cushions in vintage and upholstery fabrics.
5. Nobel
Goes, Zuid-Beveland
This is a must-see! Nobel has a large diversity of products, from home accessories and furniture to toys and clothing. That’s reason enough for paying a visit! Measuring 1500m2, Nobel can be quite justifiably called a warehouse, allowing visitors to browse at their leisure and find that perfect bargain.
6. Huis van Geluk
Zierikzee, Schouwen-Duiveland
So, as you can see, there’s an abundance of second-hand shops in Zeeland. Another of these gems can be found in Zierikzee: Huis van Geluk. This is located in Havenpark, close to the old port. Huis van Geluk houses a combination of new and old furniture and home accessories, so you can easily mix and match all your mod cons with vintage and antique items. As well as browsing in-store, Huis van Geluk also has a webshop, but you can ask for advice on home furnishings here too.
