About this route
Jan Raas Route
Zeeuws road cyclist Jan Raas achieved 14 serious wins. This cycling route, aimed especially at racing bikes, is 101 km through Zuid-Beveland and Walcheren. You are in effect riding in the slip stream of this Dutch cycling legend.
‘Amstel Gold Raas’, the most perfect nickname for Raas, even before he won the fifth Amstel Gold Race. He would also win Paris-Roubaix, Milan-San Remo, (twice!) the Tour de Flanders, and World Champion in 1979.
The route takes you past Raas’ home town. He was a pedal-pusher always, taking all the asphalt roads of Zuid-Beveland in his stride. Now, he lives in ‘s-Heerenbroek, a village with cycling in its DNA. It has an annual cycling race aimed at junior champions, the Omloop van Borsele, organised by the fervent local cycling club.
