About this location
Westkapelle is known for its lighthouse. The lighthouse, nicknamed Westkapelle Hoog, Hoge licht or Zuiderhoofd, was originally the church tower of the Sint Willibrordus church. After a fire in the church, only the tower remained and in 1907 the tower was converted into a lighthouse.
What is special is that the lighthouse is not on the sea side, but on the land side of the village. The tower consists of six floors and is 53 meters high. You have to climb 207 steps to get to the top.
