On the initiative of the municipality of Middelburg and the Stichting Bunkerbehoud (a society for the conservation of war bunkers), many local residents have helped renovate the Toorenvliedt park in Middelburg. It is now a place which draws the admiration of locals and visitors alike. 

Stadspark Toorenvliedt has been restored with the aid of EU funding and has the aim of raising awareness of the Second World War amongst youngsters and making the park a safer and more attractive environment.

It incorporates the following elements:

• a treasure hunt for kids with a specific focus on its bunkers;
• a free app with a walking trail of the bunkers;
• a bunker specially set up as a museum;
• a basketball court and playground attractions close to the bunkers;
• footpaths and other natural features.
