Expedition Delta
The Delta Works cycle route is a fascinating mix of history, nature and technology. Following the Great Flood of 1953, thirteen storm surge barriers were put in place to protect the south-west of the Netherlands from further flooding. The route helps explain more about the Delta Works, against a scenic backdrop of land and sea.
The route is 214 kilometres in total, but shorter sections can also be cycled, such as along the shores of the Veerse Meer or through the backwaters of Schouwen-Duiveland. Just follow the so-called ‘nodes’ (knooppunten) and discover windmills, villages and amazing vistas. Start wherever you want and decide on your own tempo.
