Tips to step into autumn

Step into autumn with some of our tips

As the days get shorter and the summer gradually slips away, Zeeland’s landscape transforms into a kaleidoscope of colours. Autumn is the season for letting the wind blow through your hair, for breathing in the scents of the forest and for enjoying the sights and sounds of Zeeland’s towns and villages. Of course, the wind may blow a little harder, but even with the wind, Zeeland enjoys good weather at this time of year. The days may be cooler and the sea choppier, but the wind is a harbinger of new plans and ideas. Discover here how you can get the best out of Zeeland’s autumn splendour.

Rest and recreation by the sea

Autumn in Zeeland is ideal for those who enjoy the outdoors. The wind may be wilder and the sea rougher, bringing bigger challenges for watersports enthusiasts. There are many locations in Zeeland where watersports, such as kite-surfing, (wave) surfing, foil-surfing and wakeboarding, can be practised. So, are you ready to ride the waves?

Would you rather do something a little more relaxing? Zeeland abounds in great cycle routes and hiking trails. Not without reason, it’s one of the best regions in the Netherlands for cycling. We have put together an overview of some of the best routes and trails in Zeeland, just waiting to be discovered by you. Along the way, you can go birdspotting on the south coast of Schouwen-Duiveland or explore the salt marshes and mud flats of the Verdronken Land van Saeftinghe. But hey, don’t forget your wellies! 😉

Fancy an enervating walk along a windswept beach? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Zeeland has some great beach pavilions, many open all year round, where you can come in out of the wind and enjoy the magnificent sea views.

The best tips for

Discover Zeeland’s treasures

Fancy a walk of discovery? There’s a wealth of historic stately homes, palatial residences, ancient sea forts and impressive castles waiting for you. In town centres too, street art is adding to this rich cultural heritage.

You can’t say you’ve been to Zeeland without having visited one of its many charming towns, such as
MiddelburgHulstGoes or Zierikzee. Why not take a stroll through the back streets, browse the gift and craft shops, and then rest awhile at a heated pavement cafe?

Discover culinary surprises

You may find yourself hungry after all that strenuous activity. If so, prepare yourself for some great wining and dining. You can try a bag of French fries on the sea front or alternatively, splash out on a gastronomic treat at one of our Michelin-star restaurants. And did you know that some of our local delicacies can be drunk as well as eaten? In Schouwen-Duiveland, you can sample some delicious wines from one of the largest vineyards in the Netherlands or partake of some great beers produced by one of Zeeland’s micro-breweries.
