Terneuzen

Terneuzen is an uncompromising, but nevertheless pleasant seaport on the Westerschelde estuary which is just brimming with history and places of interest. Terneuzen: a welcoming seaport

Terneuzen has been inextricably linked with the sea since its early maritime beginnings. The impressive Terneuzen lock complex makes this one of the largest of its kind in the world. In the Portaal van Vlaanderen museum, you can step into this maritime world and learn all about ships and locks.

Cultural Terneuzen

If it’s culture you’re looking for, Terneuzen’s where it’s at! For performances in the Scheldetheater to the legendary cultural stage of  Porgy & BessTerneuzen has had a long association with jazz music and every year it hosts the Zeeland Jazz festival. There is also a three-day Festival de Ballade. The region is likewise home to a number of fun and informative museums, such as Museum Schooltijd, which has an impressive collection of school items dating back over 100 years.

SnowWorld Terneuzen

SnowWorld Terneuzen is an indoor ski centre with real snow, where skiing and snowboarding are possible all year round. Take lessons if you wish or enjoy some fine food in the restaurant with views onto the piste.

Scheldeboulevard

A walk the Scheldeboulevard along the harbour front is an invigorating experience. The Westerschelde estuary is one of the busiest sea lanes in Europe and there are magnificent views across the water. There are several works of art along the boulevard and in July and August, the Scheldeboulevard even puts on its own art exhibition. 

Terneuzen and its environs can best de discovered on foot and by bike using the network of trails. Additionally, there are themed routes, such as De vliegende Hollander (the Flying Dutchman) and Smokkelen (smuggling). Other great trails in the vicinity can be found on Terneuzen’s own website.
