Grenspark Groot Saeftinghe

Grenspark Groot Saeftinghe is a unique cross-frontier nature park which straddles the Dutch-Belgian border. The park combines nature and recreation and brings together land and water, sand and clay, and salt and freshwater environments. Nature, agriculture and port facilities coexist here to form a dynamic region. Come and immerse yourself in its rich heritage and the magnificent surroundings of Eastern Zeeland-Flanders and Waasland!

Nature, history and innovation

Grenspark Groot Saeftinghe, encompassing an area which takes in Hulst, Beveren and Sint-Gillis-Waas, is a unique environment where nature, history and innovation come together. The park includes the Verdronken Land van Saeftinghe, the largest tidal marsh in Western Europe, and the Hedwige-Prosperproject, a cross-border nature recovery zone. This ‘drowned land’ was once a thriving agricultural region which became inundated by flooding in the 16th century. It is now a protected nature reserve which attracts many birdwatchers.

The Groot Saeftinghe cross-frontier park is a collaboration between eleven Dutch and Flemish partners with residents, farmers and businesses. It focuses on achieving a future-proof region where ecological, ecological, economic and social interests go hand-in-hand. The park combines recreation, nature conservation and housing in a dynamic setting.
